The Coverage Captains is a grassroots leadership program developed by Cover Georgia to build support for closing the Medicaid coverage gap in Georgia. The program recruits and trains trusted community members to serve as “Coverage Captains”, advocates who lead local outreach and engagement efforts in their counties.
Coverage Captains act as local representatives of the statewide Cover Georgia coalition, offering insight into the unique needs and barriers facing uninsured residents in their communities. By organizing educational events, helping community members understand Georgia's coverage gap, sharing their own lived experiences, and mobilizing people during strategic advocacy moments, Coverage Captains build awareness and momentum for Medicaid expansion in Georgia.
Participants receive training, ongoing support, and a monthly stipend in exchange for approximately 15 hours of service per month. By empowering local leaders with the tools and resources to mobilize their communities, the Coverage Captain program plays a key role in advancing access to care throughout Georgia.
Across Georgia, Coverage Captains are showing up in their own communities, at health fairs, church congregations, and back to school events, to talk with neighbors about the coverage gap.
